Think Work Observe,
Graphic Design Office

The aim when we approached the redesign of the identity for Italsample, a producer of filing folders and sample cases working for design forniture companies, was to convey in a contemporary form of materials and colors their technical and dynamic approach. We decided to avoid any decoration, leading it to the essential.

A conversation with Roberta, manager at Italsample.

What is the function of sample cases and how should they be?
R. From a practical point of view, a sample case is a company’s business card: in the case of textiles, it represents the product itself, while as far as other manufacturing fields are concerned, it summarises the different finishing options available for a single product. It is a selling tool used by companies to present their products to customers. We strongly believe that, beyond giving information, a sample case offers a true tactile and visual experience. Materials and colors need to be perceived in all their beauty.

How do you manufacture a sample case?
R. It is 100% handicraft. It requires great manual tasks: even though we do have machines  specifically designed for the sample case field, fabrics and threads are still being cut by hand.

How do you work?
R. As far as sample cases are concerned, we work on the single project. We do not have standard products: before the production, we carry out a prototype phase which varies from customer to customer. In fact, the prototype is already a sample case you can see and touch. We do not just supply products, we plan our work together with our customers.

How would you describe Italsample in three words?
R. Handicraft, experience, project oriented.
